Last Tuesday I had the privilege, along with other DC parents, to attend Biven's school to present a $2000 check for school funding. Here is a copy of what was written on the Dow Corning intranet:
As a company based on technology, Dow Corning depends heavily on the disciplines of science and mathematics. With this in mind, the Elizabethtown site has chosen to focus its giving on math and science education at the pre-university level. For the 2008-2009 school year, this funding is being focused specifically on supporting math and science learning at the elementary (K-5) level. Local elementary schools were contacted at the beginning of the school year and asked to submit informal requests for funding that would enhance their math and/or science programs. A cap was put on the funds requested, based on the number of students at each school.
At Abraham Lincoln Elementary (ALES) in Hodgenville, Kentucky, Kathy Ross was quick to request three sets of T1-15 graphing calculators. These sets include teaching posters, teaching guides and carrying cases. By using discounts, Kathy was ultimately able to purchase 125 of the calculators. Abraham Lincoln Elementary was awarded $2,000 for this project. On Tuesday, December 10, Dow Corning employees whose children are students at Abraham Lincoln Elementary presented the check to the school.
Attending the presentation were: Sydney Board, B.J., Katelyn & Madison Eads, Beth & Biven Turner, Donna, Victor & Maddie Helm, Amber Thurman & Kathy Ross representing ALES, Larry Tarvestad, Elizabethtown Site Manager & Pam Bowling Community Relations Rep, Mark & Steven Greenleaf, Leigh Ann & Ethan England, Kathy & Brandon Henning, Nena, Cade & Gavin Milby, Jordan Board.
